WIP Wednesday – Hitofude On Hold

imageI made it through the weekend without doing any knitting. Zero. I did finish spinning and plying 8oz of wool/alpaca/mohair roving from Avalon Springs Farms and I probably shouldn’t have.avalongsprings

I picked up my Hitofude last night and my right hand/forearm felt really tight and unhappy. Strangely, it was my left hand bothering me last week and that seems to be fine since putting those tight socks in time out. So I’m taking a break from knitting AND spinning for the rest of the week. I’m icing, and taking an NSAID, and consoling myself with coloring. I am not one of those people that can veg in front of the tv; my hands are always moving.

Hopefully, a full week of rest will help. I want to get back to this project so I can start a new one. I have so many in my queue!

Those Three Dreaded Words…

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Maybe…

CarpalBlog

I’m blaming these socks for the morning hand/arm numbness I’ve been waking up with lately. I guess knitting tightly on size 0s for several sessions each day is too much to ask. I took a break last night and I could already tell the difference. I’m putting these bad boys in time out for a while, and keeping an eye on it. I’m going to lay off knitting for a day (BOO) and I promise to have it checked out if it doesn’t improve with a rest. Pinkie swear!

FO Friday – Beekman Tavern

imageI am going to live in this sweater this winter! Beekman Tavern (designed by Thea Colman) is a fun, but not challenging knit. After a couple of rounds, I was able to easily read my knitting, making it a good tv-knitting project.

I recycled the yarn from a merino thrift store sweater (above right.) I wasn’t into the pale pink variegated colorway, so I over dyed it a grey/brown.

imageCheck out my Ravelry project page to find out how I modified this to fit my ginormo arms.

FFNE Recap

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth at this year’s Fiber Festival of New England. We had great crowds both days of the festival and I’m still readjusting to my usual work schedule. Show prep can be a bit hectic and I’m enjoying being able to plan new things and do regular, everyday tasks. Like blogging! Which I am very, very bad about doing regularly. Now that I have a new phone with an excellent camera, I’m hoping to at least keep you apprised of my latest projects. I’m back at the dye pots this week and will photographing and listing new items by Friday.

Holiday Funtimes Chez Play

mosaic649934e080641bd203848d977eabb4e4cb18f99aAs usual, December at our house means cookies, games, walks, and knitting. I’m looking forward to getting back to the swing of things this week with some last minute dyeing before Knitting Weekend at Slater Mill in Pawtucket, RI on January 17-18. Hope to see some of you there!

Last Several Months Chez Play – Fall Fun

I’ve once again slipped out of the habit of blogging. Here’s where I admit that things in my brain have been a bit jumbled over the last several months and instead of doing a little bit of everything at a reduced capacity, I quietly decided to stop doing the less important things (like blogging.) I’d much rather keep the shop stocked with pretties and get orders out on time. Oh and knit. And according to my Instagram feed, also hike and bake. Fall is my favorite time of year! mosaic0485bd4683d785e42408df92f0ef4c5d6f0b8aef

Last Week Chez Play – Socks!

IMG_8807

I finally finished a pair of socks! Sprightly Socks has a very easy-to-memorize slipped stitch pattern which made KIPing easy. And I successfully turned my second Fish Lips Kiss Heel with only one holey gap while dragging this project to the bus stop everyday. They’re a little snug to get on and I wish I hadn’t gone down a needle size for the ribbing, but they fit! And they’re warm. The yarn is Darkwing Duck, dyed by Shameless Twist for the Tripping Yarn Balls Retro Toons club. I love how variegated yarn works with this pattern.

We enjoyed our last night at the drive-in for this season. I was able to finish the cuff of my next sock project before it got dark. Shazbat is the free Mystery Sock pattern for this round of the Sock Knitters Anonymous Sock Down. I highly recommend participating in SKA if you love knitting socks OR want to learn to knit socks. Each month’s Sock Down focuses on a different feature or skill such as colorwork, cables, lace, self-striping yarn, using leftovers. And there are prizes from lots of great dyers (like me!) This yarn is Gemini dyed by Tyrannosaurus Knits for the Tripping Yarn Balls Zodiac Club. Minty green like Doublemint gum (get it?)
